Seasons for Growth

Learning to live with change and loss. At St John the Baptist Freshwater, recognises when change occurs in families, young people may benefit from learning how to manage the change.

At St John the Baptist Catholic Primary School we are here to support when change occurs in families. Often young people benefit from learning how to manage the change.

The school runs a ‘Seasons for Growth’ program for students who encounter changes such as; death, separation, divorce or other related circumstances. The program is facilitated in a small group with teacher and parent support. Teachers and parents who run the school’s Season for Growth program are trained through the Catholic School Office of Broken Bay.

The ‘Seasons for Growth’ program was developed through research highlighting the importance of social support and need to practice new skills to cope effectively with change and loss. The program focuses on issues such as self-esteem, managing feelings, problem solving, decision-making, effective communication and supporting one another.

St John the Baptist Catholic Primary School, offers the ‘Seasons for Growth’ program over six sessions, held during school hours for children aged between five and twelve years old. Parental permission is sort prior to children’s participation in this programme.
