Curriculum

We meet each learner where they are, and help them grow from there.

At St John the Baptist, we offer a balanced and engaging curriculum that supports every child to grow in both confidence and capability.

Guided by the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) syllabus and the learning principles of Catholic Schools Broken Bay, our approach ensures students experience a strong foundation in all key learning areas, while also allowing us to respond to each child’s individual needs.

Our set curriculum includes: English, Mathematics, Science and Technology, PDHPE (Personal Development, Health and Physical Education), Creative and Performing Arts, Human Society and its Environment (History and Geography), and Religious Education.

At the heart of our approach is a commitment to knowing each learner. We work closely with students to understand where they are in their learning and what they need next — providing targeted support when required and meaningful extension when they are ready to be challenged.

Learning at St John the Baptist is:

  • purposeful and relevant
  • responsive to each child’s stage of development
  • designed to build independence, curiosity and confidence

We create learning environments where students feel safe to ask questions, take risks and engage deeply with their learning. Through this, they develop the knowledge, skills and dispositions needed to succeed at school and beyond.

Our teachers collaborate to design rich learning experiences that connect across subject areas where appropriate, helping students make meaning and see the relevance of their learning in the real world.

Supported by our strong focus on Learner Diversity, we ensure all students — including those requiring additional support or extension — are challenged and supported to achieve their personal best.

At St John the Baptist, our goal is simple: to develop capable, confident learners who are prepared not only for the next stage of schooling, but for life.
