Pastoral Care

We believe children learn best when they feel safe, supported and connected.

At St John the Baptist, the wellbeing of every child sits at the heart of everything we do. Safeguarding is our highest priority, and we are committed to creating a safe and supportive environment where students feel safe to learn and flourish.

We are committed to providing wrap-around care, ensuring that each student is known, supported and valued as an individual. Through strong relationships and a deep understanding of each child, we create an environment where students feel safe, respected and confident to learn and grow.

Our approach to pastoral care is grounded in our Catholic faith and guided by our values of Courage, Compassion and Humility. These values shape the way we interact, the way we learn, and the way we care for one another each day.

We believe that students thrive when they feel a strong sense of belonging. Through consistent, positive and supportive practices, we help children to build confidence, develop resilience and form respectful relationships with others.

At St John the Baptist, this is supported through a whole-school approach that includes Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) and The Resilience Project. Together, these initiatives help students to develop emotional awareness, practise gratitude, build positive relationships and take responsibility for their actions.

Pastoral care extends beyond the classroom. Through programs such as buddy systems, Colour House connections and student leadership opportunities, students are encouraged to care for one another, develop empathy and contribute positively to the life of the school.

We recognise that strong partnerships with families are essential. By working closely with parents and carers, we ensure that each child is supported both at school and at home, creating a consistent and nurturing foundation for growth.

At St John the Baptist, our goal is simple to nurture happy, confident and resilient learners who feel supported in every aspect of their development.
