Core mathematical concepts and skills from across the disciplines of Working Mathematically, Number, Patterns and Algebra, Measurement, Space and Geometry and Data.
Mathematical thinking and problem solving strategies.

Numeracy has a vital role in all Key Learning Areas.
Numeracy is purposeful, flexible, dynamic and continues to develop throughout an individual’s lifetime.
Numeracy involves the ability to use appropriate mathematical knowledge skills and understandings.
Numeracy involves the purposeful and creative use of resources so as to gather, analyse information and solve problems in order to be numerate members of society.
Numeracy skills are developed sequentially.
Numeracy learning should be an enjoyable, challenging, engaging, enriching and rewarding experience.
Students are required to become proficient self-regulated learners.
A continuous cycle of monitoring, assessing and refining of teaching and learning strategies occur to ensure students’ needs are met and outcomes are achieved.

St John the Baptist Catholic Primary School has mandatory assessment requirements and student tracking in Mathematical learning, from Kindergarten to Year Six. Consistent assessment data analysis from teachers provides valuable information to continually develop student learning from their point of need in Mathematics.
