EXTRA-CURRICULAR activities currently offered at St John the Baptist are:

TERM 1, 2026

CHESS

Learning and playing chess helps children develop their logical thinking and problem-solving skills, improves their concentration and focus, while also being a great source of enjoyment.
Activities include group lessons on a demonstration chess board or interactive whiteboard, puzzle solving and fun practice games. Students earn merit awards by making checkmates, or by displaying skills and positive qualities, which all good chess players strive to develop. Each student in the Chess program will also receive access to Chess Squad https://www.chesssquad.com/ which is an online teaching/playing platform.
Term 1 classes start on Monday, 9 February 2026 and take place on Mondays from 1-1.40pm in the School Library.

DANCE

Dance classes aim to be fun while encouraging improved fitness, flexibility and coordination. Each term, students work on routines and will do anything from jazz, lyrical to musical theatre. Learning dance is such a great way to increase creativity, musicality and confidence and an opportunity to provide entertainment through performance.
Classes take place on Wednesdays and are open to all ages. Cost is $80/term.

GUITAR

Guitar lessons are held before school on Tuesday mornings in a fun, interactive small group. You can bring your own guitar or hire one, and the cost is $25/class.
Classes begin on Tuesday 3 February at 8am and go for 9 weeks in Term 1.
